DescriptionThe 14th Annual Conference, 'Character Caught, Taught, and Sought: Theories and Evidence', will take place on January 8th – 10th 2026. Conference Aims The original conceptualisation from the Jubilee Centre’s framework of dividing strategies of character development into ‘taught’, ‘caught’ and ‘sought’ has found resonance with theorists and practitioners alike, and those terms are now emblazoned on walls in many schools and colleges, within and outside of the U.K. However, the time has come to revisit this conceptualisation and subject it to further scrutiny. The main aim of this conference is to bring discourses closer together by exploring how current agendas in virtue ethics, moral psychology, professional ethics, and character education offer resources, theoretical as well as empirical, to move these discourses forward and further consolidate – or revise – the tripartite conceptualisation. Registration options The conference runs between the 8th January and the 10th January 2026. Full admission includes accommodation for the evening of the 8th and 9th January 2026, and full board (including the conference dinner) at Oriel college, Oxford. If you will not be staying at the provided accommodation, please select a ‘non-resident’ booking.
