Making sense of complexity: systems leadership in practice

An opportunity to develop essential leadership skills and capacities for dealing with everyday complexity. Facilitated by experts, including the world-renowned Jennifer Garvey Berger. Join peers, and leaders from across sectors and levels to explore how our personal sense making influences our understanding and response to systemic problems.

If you are a leader in the third, private or public sector, if you commission leaders, if you are developing leaders in your organisation this event is for you.

What kind of leadership do we need to tackle complex cross-cutting challenges like climate change, equality and diversity or inequality? How can we develop it in ourselves and others? This interactive, interdisciplinary, practitioner-oriented conference will explore these questions and is a first for the University of Birmingham. It will include experiential learning, individual development opportunities, networking and influential speakers from leadership, academia, and industry.

This event is for anyone seeking to exercise leadership on a complex challenge in their workplace, community or family. Participants will explore what makes leadership that embraces complexity so hard, and how we can get better at it. Working with world-leading experts in leadership development and with each other, participants will have the opportunity to engage in developmental activities and processes to support and enhance their own capacity for leadership embracing complexity. Peers will include leaders at all levels in the commercial, public, and third sectors including BLI and University of Birmingham alumni. The conference will close with an opportunity for networking with keynote speakers, participants, and expert facilitators.
