Please be aware that the Student and Alumni References Team will be closing for the Christmas period on Friday 18th December 2020 and will reopen on Monday 4th January 2021. We will not be able to process any requests during this time. We will endeavour to process before the closed period any requests made by Tuesday 15th December 2020. All outstanding requests, as well as any requests made during the closed period, will be processed as soon as possible following our return.
The Student and Alumni Reference Team provides academic references to organisations requesting verification of current and former students' attendance at the University of the Birmingham. Please note that this product is for commercial organisations only; non-commercial organisations (such as HE institutions, embassies and other public bodies) will not be charged and should instead email their reference request directly to [email protected]
This product is only for employers, referencing agencies and other commercial organisations requesting an academic reference for students or alumni of the University of Birmingham. Our standard academic reference will confirm course of study, dates of attendance, result and date of conferment (if applicable).
There is a charge of £10 for each request placed. This charge is applicable whether or not we are able to confirm a student’s attendance. After you have placed your order, you will also need to email us separately with signed consent from your applicant, authorising us to release the information to you. Please email the signed consent (and any other relevant documentation) to the Student and Alumni References Team at [email protected], ensuring that you include the student’s name and your Online Shop order number in the subject of the email.
The Student and Alumni References Team are not able to provide character references for students or alumni. If you need a more detailed reference, you will need to speak to your candidate to obtain a suitable contact who is able to comment in more detail, or else the candidate’s school of study may be able to assist.
We aim to process academic reference requests within 3 working days. Please be aware that this may take longer at peak periods of the academic year (such as our main Welcome period in September/October and the end of the academic year in June), if consent is not provided, or if we need to query requests where incomplete information has been submitted or your candidate graduated before 2002.
