Introduction to Health Economics Short Course 2022DescriptionThis course is designed to introduce the basic principles of health economics and equip you with the basic knowledge needed to interpret and appraise applied studies in health economics. The course covers issues including health and health care systems, methods of economic evaluation, setting priorities using health economics and the interface between health economics and health policy. Economic Evaluation in Healthcare Short Course 2022DescriptionThis course is designed to go beyond the first principles of economic evaluation. Its focus is the development, extension and application of the main issues and techniques for economic evaluation. The material covered by the course includes an in-depth coverage of the components of economic evaluation, such as cost data collection analysis, outcome data analysis, health state valuation in general and discounting issues. Alternative methods for economic evaluation and the relevant frameworks will be discussed with case studies and policy applications. The module includes inter-active practical sessions on decision modelling, cost-effectiveness acceptability curves and missing data analysis, in which 'hands-on' application and analysis of alternative approaches used in economic evaluation will be demonstrated with full discussion of the advantages and appropriateness of the alternative techniques. The module concludes with a group-based critical appraisal exercise to consolidate the concepts covered during the week. Policy and Economics of Healthcare Delivery Short Course 2023DescriptionHealth care systems are under constant reform, much of which has an economic dimension. This course analyses recent reforms in UK health care and assesses the contribution economics can make to policy evolution in key areas of health care provision. This course goes beyond the material covered in the Introduction to Health Economics and should equip you to critically appraise health care reforms from both an economic and policy perspective.
